First Bus invests in more buses on York Park and Ride to support shoppers, retailers and hospitality during Easter holidays
- Additional services to run from 7-19 April
- Extra buses on Services 2, 3,7,8 and 9
First Bus is introducing extra buses on the Park and Ride network, which it operates in partnership with City of York Council, to support the York local and visitor economy throughout the Easter holiday period.
The additional services will begin from Monday 7 April and run until Saturday 19 April.
This investment in vehicles and drivers will increase frequency on key routes connecting York’s retail and leisure destinations and the city centre.
Kayleigh Ingham, Commercial Director for First Bus in North & West Yorkshire, said: “We know that York is a popular destination during the school holidays and long Easter weekend. This increase in frequency will help visitors and local residents to get around more easily and enjoy the city’s attractions.
“Encouraging more people to use Park and Ride and travel on our zero-emission bus fleet will also help to reduce traffic congestion in York and create cleaner air during a busy period on the roads.”
The normal timetable will resume on all services from Tuesday 22 April.
Cllr Kate Ravilious, Executive Member for Transport at City of York Council. added: “This is welcome news and yet another reason why everyone should consider getting the Park and Ride during Easter.
“York’s Park and Ride remains a competitively priced and environmentally friendly way to commute into or visit the city. For many people, especially families, the Park and Ride will be cheaper than parking in the city for two hours or more.”
Three children aged 16 and under travel free on the Park and Ride when accompanied with an adult paying the standard £3.90 return.
“Making it easier for people to use public transport is a key part of our Local Transport Strategy and we are grateful to First Bus for making this happen. Easter is always a time when the city centre is buzzing with activities and I hope that the extra buses mean that more people can come to York by Park and Ride this Easter,” said Cllr Ravilious.
